LOCATION OF POSITION

7800 Harkins Road, Lanham, Maryland 20706

The Department of Housing and Community Development's Headquarters Office is located in Prince George's County across from the New Carrollton Metro stop.

POSITION DUTIES

This position serves as the Deputy Director of Operations and Administration, with direct management responsibility. The incumbent is responsible to provide a safe and healthy environment and administrative support to employees in the Department in support of the goals and mission of the Department.  This position oversees and directs the administrative services, emergency preparedness, space/planning and design management, safety and security, environmental and facilities and fleet management.  This position oversees complex programs and projects including designing and developing projects until production and develop risk management strategies.                                                                                                                                 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five years of experience in administrative staff or professional work. One year of this experience must have involved one or more of the following: the supervision of other employees, overseeing and coordinating the general operations of a unit, applying rules and regulations, or exercising responsibility for the development of policies or procedures.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Facilities management

Occupational Safety and Security

Environmental Management Emergency Preparedness

Budget and Procurement Management

Fleet management

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint and Excel

Work experience with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on emergency preparedness

Work experience managing and complying with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) codes and regulations.

Work experience managing and complying with the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH) codes and regulations

Ability to coordinate space planning for office set-up

Ability to develop design plans for building and office renovations

Experience operating a 15 passenger shuttle buses

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

Successful candidates must document eligibility to work in the U.S. upon hire. The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development is not sponsoring new employees in application of the H-1B Visa at this time due to budgetary constraints.  All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States under the Immigration and Reform Control Act of 1986.  Federal regulations prohibit H1B Visa candidates from paying sponsorship fees, all sponsorship fees must be assumed by the potential employer.
